Happy Monday! I’m excited to be back and posting after a week off. This past week felt sort of busy and weird for me, and I kind of disappeared from the blog. One example of what “busy and weird” means? My car died as I was driving onto the ferry for an interview on the other side. I was that person who was not only blocking a lane of traffic from driving on, but who had to be pushed onto the ferry. Why do bad things happen to good people!!!
Anyway. I wanted to come back with some of my January favorites. You know, recap the month sort of thing. This semi-random collection of little favorites features mostly “lifestyle” items that I’ve been returning to over and over this past month. Absolutely no fashion (or even beauty, for that matter) favorites but meh. It’s fine. January was definitely a whirlwind (in good and bad ways), which makes sense when I noticed my favorites for the month include aromatherapy, hot tea, and calming greenery. Let’s go.
Succulents
I have a bit of an issue with any type of house plant. It’s this little problem where I always kill them. I mean, am I giving it too much water? Too little water? Too much sun? No sun? Last winter I think I killed a poinsettia in record time, sadly. What it comes down to, then, is finding greenery that is (fingers crossed) extremely easy to care for and long lasting. Also, succulents are just really, really cute… which may seem like a weird way to describe a plant, but they just are.
I’ve been loving the little pop of green they add to my space, and will keep you updated to see if they actually are that easy to care for (AKA if it lives or dies). And yes, I realize it may look conceited and/or like a little mini shrine to myself when I paired the succulent with a polaroid that is just a picture of me, but I’m just going to roll with it.
Essential Oil Sleep Spray
One of my goals for 2017 was to literally sleep better, or more specifically, to keep my sleep space sacred. That sounds like a total “gimme” of a 2017 goal, but hear me out. I wanted to stop using my computer in bed (even for legit work things), start to use the time before sleeping for reading or journaling, and also try some essential oils. This pillow mist, which I just spray (mist) over my pillows and sheets before bed, is lavender vanilla scented and helps create such a relaxing, soothing sleep space. I do think that the combination of stopping computer use in bed + this aromatherapy has helped me consistently sleep well, which is why it’s a favorite.
Tazo Green Ginger Tea
I can’t talk about January favorites without mentioning this tea. I was introduced to this over Christmas, and haven’t looked back since. Ginger isn’t usually a go-to flavor for me, but this green tea option is surprisingly subtle (depending on brew time, of course). This winter has been so cold, and I love having hot tea to sip on during the day. The ginger flavor also seems to balance out the bitterness that green tea sometimes has, which is perfect. If you like tea, and maybe even if you don’t, this one is worth trying out!
Polaroids
I don’t know, do I even have to explain this? Having little snapshots around, especially from the summer, is encouraging to me. Plus, it’s fun to look back at them and remember the exact memories from that day. Also, this is further proof that I even wear neutrals when I’m hiking. Ok, I’m addicted!
Cute Notebooks
Just add cute notebooks and journals to the list of random things I am obsessed with. This gold polka dot notebook was one I purchased for work (so, totally justifiable right). It has unlined pages that are heavy enough so no ink bleeds through, and it was totally one of my January favorites. If you’re going to be writing/planning/designing, it may as well be in something that looks nice, right?!
What were some of your January favorites?
